“One either allows racial inequities to persevere, as a racist, or confronts racial inequities, as an antiracist. There is no in-between safe space of “not racist.” The claim of “not racist” neutrality is a mask for racism.”
Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, How to Be an Antiracist

Susan Shin Angulo

Mayor Susan Shin Angulo (D) holds the Office of the Mayor for the Township of Cherry Hill, NJ. The Mayors Office overseas a variety of township functions including but not limited to the appointing of and supervision of the Cherry Hill Police Department and Chief of Police.

The Racial Injustice:

In a recent peer reviewed study by Rise Against Hate found: The youngest Black child subject to force was an 8 year old girl, while the youngest white child was 14 years old. This presents a 6 year age disparity.

Cherry Hill Police Force Used Against Children based on RAH Harvard Published Data: Shore, B., Hetzell, D., Verschell, H., & Estill, L. (2020). Cherry Hill Police Use of Force Report [Data set]. Harvard Dataverse. https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/Y5UIPS
Trigger Warning: Child subject to Police Force

When exploring the Cherry Hill Police Departments use of force a recent study found that Black people are 8.9 times more likley to have Police Force used upon them then there white counterpart.

Furthermore the RAH Study looked beyond force to see if racial inequality exists within other applications of policing. The study looked at those arrested for marijuana arrests. The gold standard that successful was used in court to prove racial targeting developed by the American Civil Liberties Union, this work was duplicated using Cherry Hill’s recent data. This concluded that under the Susan Shin Angulo Administration in 2020 racial disparities have hit the highest in the last 20 years in Cherry Hill.

Visualizing Racial Inequality

Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of Psychotherapy Services at Penn Medicine Found that: “This police department (CHPD) is actively causing trauma to our Black children” -Dr. Jessica Shore.

What Happened:

On December 8th, 2020 Camden County NAACP President Henderson joined Rise Against Hate in a meeting with the Mayor and Chief of Police. We raised these important issues found in the 25 page report, which can be found at RiseAgainstHate.org/Research.

FYI: Since this meeting, Mayor Susan Shin Angulo has taken no action.

Mayor Susan Shin Angulo is a performative ally.

Every day Cherry Hill Mayor Susan Shin Angulo remains silent and turns a blind eye to racism. She empowers the systems of racism here in Cherry Hill by keeping the heartbeat of racism alive.

“If there is a racial disparity shown via racial data then there must be something wrong with policy as opposed to people” ― Dr. Ibram X. Kendi

It is time for the Mayor to tender her resignation and step down. The Mayors silence and inaction further perpetuating this racist system is racist. Mayor Susan Shin Angulo does not exemplify the characteristics of a true leader. We deserve compassion, respect, integrity and most importantly members of our community are being harmed because of the treatment under the Susan Shin Angulo Administration and our community deserves justice.

Take Action, stand with justice:
